Positive Filters
A positive filter removes the jamming carriers generated by the headend encoder and restores the video and audio to the subscriber of the paid premium channel. An encoder is placed at the headend to scramble the channel by injecting dual jamming carriers between the video and audio carriers. This method of security is chosen when the premium channel penetration is low.
Eagle has developed and patented a second type of headend encoder / decoding filter, called the Sideband Interdiction System, to minimize video loss. Unlike positive filters, the Sideband Interdiction Decoder system utilizes the channel's own sideband information as interdiction energy, extracting a narrow portion of the channel's own visual carrier sidebands, and then processes them in amplitude and phase. The decoding filter returns the sidebands to their original amplitude and phase, restoring the channel to near perfect condition with full frequency response, sharpness and definition.
